EEucomis 'African Night' emerges in mid spring with dramatic purple foliage followed by dramatic, lavender pink spikes.
Description:
Eucomis 'African Night' emerges in mid spring with dramatic purple foliage. The bold strap-like leaves form a rosette 2-3 feet wide with foliage more upright and vase-shaped in hotter, leaner and drier conditions. In summer, the foliage lightens to deep green with burgundy highlights topped with 2-3 foot reddish stems of glistening, lavender-pink, lily-like flowers on an inflorescence that looks like a pineapple with a tuft of bracts at the top. Very easy to grow and tolerates a wide range of garden conditions. Full sun for best foliage colour. Grow through a carpet of Geranium ‘Ballerina’ or Sedum ‘Angelina’. Mulch in winter with fallen leaves.
