Woodwardia areolata is a hardy, deciduous chain fern from eastern North America that forms spreading colonies of once-pinnate, broad, glossy, lush, somewhat tropical-looking sterile fronds 1-2 feet long that emerge flushed with pink. Fertile fronds emerge in summer with narrower pinnae. Easy to grow in rich soils with average to wet moisture levels in part to full shade but is tolerant of sun with consistent moisture.
