Description:
Podophyllum hexandrum is an Asian mayapple with large, lobed, umbrella-shaped, glossy green leaves that emerge with beautiful burgundy mottling like a closed umbrella pushing out of the soil. The flowers are pale pink to white and produce bulbous red orange fruits. Synonym: P. emodi. Mayapples are herbaceous members of the Barberry family that brings us Berberis and Mahonia.
