Ribes hirtellum 'Oregon Champion' is an early ripening, mildew resistant gooseberry with large, yellow-green fruit perfect for jams, pies, and fruit wine. It is very productive with good fruit quality and tartness. It originated in Salem, Oregon in the late 1800s. Gooseberries are highly nutritious and are particularly high in vitamin A and phosphorus. They can be used in desserts or eaten fresh to enjoy their sweet/tart flavour. They are self-fertile and extremely hardy, at least to zone 3.
