Calanthe discolor is a charming, hardy, woodland orchid with white and burgundy flowers. A cool hardy orchid for the shade garden.


Description:
Calanthe discolor is a very durable, cold-hardy orchid species from Japan with showy 10 inch spikes of burgundy and white bicoloured flowers in May. The burgundy can vary between cool and warm burgundies. The attractive foliage is heavily pleated and semi-evergreen. These seven year old plants are blooming-size, virus-free and were derived from flasked seedlings. Calanthe are hardy terrestrial orchids for classic shade garden conditions. They are relatively easy to grow in rich, well-drained soils in part shade.
