Arum italicum

('productnameshort')

The painted arum, Arum italicum, is evergreen throughout winter with mottled arrow-shaped leaves.

Description:
As the rest of the garden wanes in autumn, the painted or Italian arum sends up masses of ornamental deep green leaves marbled with cream and mint green which persist through winter. In spring, large creamy green spathes appear amongst the foliage. These are followed by wands of plump, fiery orange fruits in summer. Plant in a prominent spot in the shade garden where it can be enjoyed in all four seasons. Arum italicum has been identified as invasive in BC, the PNW, California, and parts of the eastern US. While there are examples of good behaviour in gardens over decades there are also examples of it running wild where conditions are right. It can spread by rhizomes and seed. While it could be grown safely in city gardens, it should be avoided if you live near natural ecosystems.
