Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum' (syn. 'Metallicum') produces lots of lacey, silver fronds with red stems. This Japanese painted fern will add punch to the shade border and break up the monotony of all that green. Selected by the Perennial Plant Association as Perennial Plant of the Year 2004. Grow in evenly moist soils.
