Lonicera caerulea 'Boreal Beast' is a haskap or honeyberry said to have remarkable flavour either fresh or frozen.
Description:
Lonicera caerulea, known as haskap or honeyberry, is a super hardy zone 2 shrubby honeysuckle that produces tasty cylindrical blue fruits high in vitamin C that taste like a combination of blueberry and raspberry. The fruit can be eaten fresh or used for pies, jams, jellies, and other desserts. The Boreal Series was bred by Bob Bors at the University of Saskatchewan to bring together the best traits of Japanese, Russian, and Kurile lineages. 'Boreal Beast' is said to have remarkable flavour either fresh or frozen with one of the best aromas and aftertastes. Use it as a pollinator for 'Boreal Blizzard' and 'Boreal Beauty'. Haskaps need to be pollinated by a different clone, all of which will bear fruit. Fragrant, yellow, tubular, spring flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Deer resistant and excellent mildew resistance.
