Rosa foetida 'Persian Yellow' has bright yellow semi-double flowers on arching stems.
Description:
Rosa foetida is a tough species known as the Austrian briar or the Persian yellow rose native to the foothills of the Caucasus mountains in Georgia. True to its name, it has a light scent that not everyone enjoys but some find pleasant! It was introduced in Europe in the 16th century and is the source of yellow in our modern hybrids. 'Persian Yellow' was a hit with gardeners hundreds of years ago for its rare semi-double form that we take for granted in roses today. The bright yellow to lemon yellow flowers will create a dramatic display once a year on 6-8 foot arching stems then contribute to a nice green background at the back of the border. Or use as a thick, suckering hedge. Hardy to zone 4 and performs very well in cold climates.
