Description:
Solanum tuberosum 'Chieftain' is a popular and attractive red-skinned variety with white fleshed, oval to oblong tubers that mature mid-season. Bred in Iowa back in 1957, it has stood the test of time offering adaptability to different growing conditions and great yields. Loose soils are preferable for higher production in the ground or large containers, however, this variety also grows well in light clay soils. Plant in early spring while soil is still cool.
