Iris x hollandica or Dutch iris are beautiful hybrids for hot sunny locations. 'Apollo' has striking white flags, sometimes with a faint blue tinge, and pale yellow falls with dark yellow tips. Dutch iris make great cut flowers. Plant them in a location with well-drained to dryish soils where they can bake in the summer months when dormant. Overplant with ground covers like thyme, Sedum and Delosperma.
