Description:
Iris unguicularis is a surprising feature of the winter to spring garden potentially blooming in the period from November to March. 'Walter Butt' has pale lavender-blue flowers that are larger and more fragrant than the species with broader foliage. It is best in a warm, sheltered, well-drained, sunny spot against the house and out of the rain where you can ignore it -- it hates to be fussed over. Forms a good clump of evergreen spiked foliage. Hails form the Mediterranean.
