It blooms in spring with rounded heads of its star-like flowers on stems up to 20 inches tall. This frost tender bulb needs to be stored in a dry frost-free location in winter or, in zone 8, planted in a protected location against a building. Provide lots of water when in growth followed by a dry resting period. Endemic to the Cape of South Africa.

Native Habitat: Northern and Western Cape provinces of South Africa, where it is native to vleis, sandy flats, lower mountain slopes and in disturbed ground. Although it is a Cape winter rainfall species, it grows well in gardens in the summer rainfall region.
