Papaver orientale 'Heartbeat' produces large, deep red flowers with black centres on top of a dense, robust, dark green foliage. Oriental poppies are dramatic additions to the perennial border. They can go through a "dumb phase" after blooming so always plant a nice mound of foliage to one foot high in front of your poppy clumps.
