Description:
Darlingtonia californica is an amazing and rare carnivorous plant known as the California pitcher plant. It is a West Coast relative of Sarracenia which occurs in wet habitats of northern California and coastal Oregon. It forms cobra-like pitchers with a tongue like appendage that really does look like a snake about to strike! The tops of the pitchers are beautifully veined with mid green around light green to translucent areas that can flush red. The intriguing red flowers with green sepals are pendulous on tall stems. Grow in peat and sand that is kept consistently moist at all times. Protect in winter from hard freezes. Our plants are blooming size with mature pitchers.
