Allium cowanii, sometimes listed as A. neapolitanum 'Cowanii', is a lovely smaller species with open, domed heads of pure white flowers on stems to about 12-16 inches high. Ornamental onions offer intriguing spherical or egg-shaped inflorescences comprised of hundreds of tiny flowers. Available in the fall as dry bulbs and sometimes in the spring as potted plants.
