Osmanthus fragrans f. thunbergii also known as fragrant osmanthus or tea olive is a great evergreen shrub or small tree. It has small, pale yellow, extremely fragrant flowers with bright red new growth that becomes thick, leathery evergreen leaves. The edible dried flowers are popular in China. They are used as an herbal tea or as an addition to black or green teas. They are also used to make jams, cakes, dumplings, and liquor. Plant in a protected location that has good heat in during the growing season which will encourage flowering.
