Cylindropuntia imbricata is an extremely hardy and ornamental cholla cactus from the US and Mexico forming small, branched trees.
Description:
Cylindropuntia (Opuntia) imbricata 'Guadalupe' is a Cistus Nursery introduction from 6500 feet elevation in the Guadalupe Mountains along the border of Texas and New Mexico. It forms a small, rounded tree to about 6 feet tall with bright green stems that can develop a bluish tint. Plum coloured flowers in early summer become yellow fruit. Hardy to at least zone 6 and probably zone 5. On the west coast, provide sharp drainage and protection from winter rain -- scree gardens or under overhangs of the house both work well. Elsewhere they can be planted out in the open but always in sharp drainage.
